I am doing test number 2 of the Night Shot Mode on the GoPro Hero 5 Black.
For this test I connected the camera to an external 20,000 mAHr battery bank and it used 100% of the bank running from about 7PM to 6AM, the GoPro still had 90% since the battery bank was supplying power most of the evening. So it looks like I will need a bigger battery bank if I want to do anything longer in time, I can make something for that.
I enabled the wireless connection, then used my cell phone with the GoPro app to set the camera up and started the time lapse. Total capture space used was 2GB. I tried to point North by North East, you can clearly see the Big dipper rotating and North Star which is the center of rotation in the movie it is in the left third of the image.
In this test I set the camera with these settings-
NIGHT LAPSE PHOTO
SHUTTER: 30 seconds
FIELD OF VIEW: 12 MP Linear
WHITE BALANCE: 3000K
COLOR: GoPro Color
ISO MIN: 100
ISO MAX: 800
I put the individual images together with YAWCAM feature: images to movie at 20 fps
